Shazam! was filmed mostly in Toronto, Canada, but major portions of the film were shot on location in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The production team shot the movie for weeks in the city, utilizing iconic locations such as the Art Museum Steps, along with outside locations in West Philadelphia and near City Hall. Philadelphia was chosen for its distinct architectural features and historic streets. Also, the scene where the character Billy Batson transforms into the superhero Shazam while riding a SEPTA bus through the city was filmed in Philadelphia. Additionally, the production team filmed at areas near the Schuylkill River, as well as other famous Philadelphia landmarks like Reading Terminal Market and the Philadelphia Opera House.
